"A story about girls & for girls,'' set at a summer camp in the Adirondacks in the 1920s. This was the first book in a series of only two titles, & like Ms. Garis's other books, featured a "modern" heroine with different abilities & inclinations. Most involved girls solving mysteries (like their counterpart who would come around in the 1930s, Nancy Drew). Ms Garis was a writer in the Stratemeyer Syndicate that produced the Drew books, but unique for a woman writer at the time, insisted on writing under her own name. A FIRST EDITION, unknown printing, from 1927, in 252 pages & a glossy frontispiece by illustrator Thelma, Gooch, this 12mo has soft gray cloth-covered boards stamped with a black image of Cleo to front cover with green lettering to front/black to spine. Condition is VG+: very clean & bright, interior pages are creamy white with mild, age-appropriate tanning, offsetting to ffep. Completely unmarked. Very slight corner bumping & rubbing to extremities. The unclipped DJ is Good+, with some small chips to all corners & both ends of spine, missing a 1" strip from lower spine; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover Free! Our photos depict the EXACT book you will receive from us--never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
