A fictionalized set of stories set primarily in London's Kensington Gardens, "ranging in tone from fantasy and whimsy to social comedy with dark, aggressive undertone" (Wiki), which introduced the mischievous boy who would later become the title character of his own book, Peter Pan. In 286 pages with Frontispiece + 2 internal illustrations by Arthur Rackham in black-and-white on glossy paper with mild tanning to margins. Orig. published in 1902, this is a later printing (1913) of that First Edition from Charles Scribner's Sons, a small octavo (5.25" x 7.75") with deep brown cloth over boards stamped with a circular gilt design to center/faded gilt lettering to spine. An EX-LIB copy, with markings/card pocket to front & rear endpapers & outer lower spine (call number); former owner's name in pen to ffep. Overall condition is Good: generally quite clean, binding strong & straight, but half-title page is loose & gutter is cracked there, as is the rear hinge. Tissue guard at title page is intact. Pages creamy white & unmarked, with moderate tanning, rough-cut fore edge. Exterior shows moderate rubbing to extremities, with heavy bumping & loss to both ends of spine & corners. No DJ, as issued (never came with one). Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day. SORRY: book is too large for expedited domestic or international shipping without preapproval of extra (at least double) postage per USPS rates.
