Les differents publics de Paris by Gustave Dore (around 1854)

Paris, Au Bureau du Journal Amusant, no date (around 1854), Oblong quarto, 13.25" x 10" (34,5x26,5cm). First edition Scarce publication, with twenty original captioned lithographed plates by Gustave Dore. Dore's debut album of illustrations, published at age 22: "In this album, Dore begins to display an unprecedented mastery of comedy and exuberance. We are constantly drawn in by the abundant playfulness of his verve, and, as Baraldi says, 'by a very accurate, very witty and yet measured observation'"(Henri Leblanc, Catalogue de l'oeuvre complete de Gustave Dore (90)). This copy is missing the spine and publisher's lithographed green cover, which is identical with the title page, which has a white background (present). A back cover is probably also missing. The 20 lithographed plates are complete. Most have light foxing, almost entirely only in the margins. Plate 18 has remnants of tape on the back. Plate 20 has a small, repaired tear at the bottom of the page, not affecting illustration or text. The binding of the book block is still solid.
