This story was adapted into a stage version by Leah Napolin (with Singer), which was the basis for the film Yentl (1983) starring and directed by Barbra Streisand.
Isaac Bashevis Singer (1902-1991) was a Polish-born Jewish-American writer who wrote and published first in Yiddish and later translated himself into English. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1978.
Illustrations by Antonio Frasconi, who also designed this book, which was printed by Rembrandt Press.
Antonio Frasconi (1919-2013) was an Uruguayan American visual artist, best known for his woodcuts.
