Three quarter tan calf leather bound covers with 5 raised bands and marbled boards are worn at extremities with a couple of abrasions to the marbled back covers but clean and in very good- condition. Front board of volume 1 detached but present. Boards and spines are straight. Bindings are tight. Vintage bookplate of Edward Preble Motley affixed to front paste downs. Marbled end sheets and paste downs clean and vibrant. Frotnispieces and plates protected by tissue. Pages are lightly toned but clean and in very good condition. Has first issue points: 'Actresses' on page 207 line 33 and chapters 47 and 48 misnumbered.
