VERY GOOD, no dust jacket. No marks in text. Binding is tight and square. 111 pages ; Illustrations ; 22 cm. . . . . 69 poems that demonstrate how the Franciscan spirit of joy could be integrated into everyday life. Born in Dublin, Ireland, Brophy developed a passion for writing at a young age. He first appeared in print in a Franciscan magazine edited by the Capuchin Fathers. After leaving school, he worked various jobs, including positions in an architect's office, a coal yard, as a librarian, and in a Labor Exchange. Brophy's career took him to London's Fleet Street, where he befriended Franciscans at Forest Gate. It was there that Father Alexander introduced him to G.K. Chesterton's work on St. Francis of Assisi, which greatly impacted Brophy's spiritual and literary path. Seeking to study Catholic journalism, Brophy enrolled at Louvain University in Belgium. However, his studies were interrupted by World War II. During this tumultuous period, he traveled across Europe, visiting Franciscan friaries in various capitals and earning a living by teaching English and engaging in literary work. Brophy believed that Franciscan spirituality offered solutions to the world's problems. He advocated for a Catholic literature that could *liberate all the essential goodness in the hearts of men* and be accessible to everyday people. His work aimed to spread peace, love, and joy through a Franciscan-inspired approach to writing and life.
