An avid traveler, Whitman studied architecture in Europe, Egypt, Japan, and Africa, circling the world five times. In 1966, she wrote a book about her experiences titled *A Tyro Takes a Trip*. Bertha Yerex Whitman passed away in 1984 at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy as one of the pioneering women in American architecture.
