Bertha Yerex Whitman (1892-1984) was a pioneering American architect who made significant contributions to the field during the early 20th century. Born in Newaygo, Michigan, Whitman began her professional life as a teacher in 1911 before deciding to pursue a career in architecture. An avid traveler, Whitman studied architecture in Europe, Egypt, Japan, and Africa, circling the world five times. In 1966, she wrote a book about her experiences titled *A Tyro Takes a Trip*. Bertha Yerex Whitman passed away in 1984 at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy as one of the pioneering women in American architecture.
