Original wood block hand carved etching. Full Page (p.204) in Frank Leslie's Illustrated June 17, 1865 Issue. The image captures Union soldiers, colloquially known as "Sherman's Bummers", engaged in foraging activities. "Bummers" was a term applied to soldiers in Shermans army who were tasked withor took it upon themselvesto gather supplies from the countryside, often in a destructive and unruly manner. These foragers became infamous among Southern civilians for looting homes, farms, and plantations, requisitioning food, livestock, and other resources to sustain the Union army, which had deliberately cut itself off from traditional supply lines. The artist is James E. Taylor. Condition is GOOD+. Light wear with chips on bottom edge and moderate tanning but still collectible with a clear image. Size is 16" x 10.5". Mounted on stiff foam board and protected with mylar.
