Previous owner's name in ink to pastedown and foxing to prelims, becoming light and scattered to the rest of the text. The novel which became the most known of Rhoides' works, translated from the Modern Greek. It was later translated by Lawrence Durrell. When the work was first published in the Greek in 1866, it was mostly becoming accepted that the legend of Pope Joan was nothing more than a legend.
