Ex-library of Trinity College. vi, 662 pp. Full light brown calf with borders and armorial stamps tooled in gilt to front & rear; gilt-lettered and decorated spines with leather title labels. Marbled edges and endpapers; blind inner dentelles. Stickers to front of volumes, and sticker marks to base of spines; barcode and Trinity College stamp inside to front & security labels to rear endpapers. Bookplates to paste-downs of one 'Herbert Edward Douglas Blakiston' and an owner's name and in black ink to vol. 1. Slight bit of rubbing to spines, and some scratches and shelf wear. Touch of foxing to prelims and highlighter mark to corner of half-title, text clean. Series of Froude's lectures, essays from British and American journals and some yet unpublished essays such as 'Divus Caesar', 'Leaves from a South African Journal', on topics from theology, English history to Homer and Spinoza. Froude was professor of modern history at the University of Oxford.
