First Nonesuch edition, with the print run limited to 1250 copies, of which this is no. 1070. Full vellum with a blind tooled design to covers and gilt lettering to spine in a marbled slipcase. Printed on French hand-made paper with a decorative title-page, some light foxing to endpapers, therwise a lovely clean copy. . Some minor rubbing to edges of slipcase with very slight splitting to open corners. An observant account by diarist John Evelyn of how to conduct a country gentleman's life and affairs, providing lesser-known insights into the domestic economy of the 17th century. Transcribed from the manuscript with preface and notes added by Geoffrey Keynes. This is a small format book - binding 15cm tall.
