1975, 1st edition. Inscribed in ink on the front free endpaper. My Life is the autobiography of the fourth prime minister of Israel, and the first woman head of state in that country. Born in Kyiv, her family emigrated to the United States and she became a naturalized US citizen in 1917, but her goal was to settle in what was then the British Mandate of Palestine, and in 1921, after the first World War, she and her husband and her sister did so, with Meir joining a kibbutz. The book is both frank and very revealing of her personality and goals. Her total lack of pretense is especially winning. Meir's practical idealism can be seen in efforts as diverse as the beautification of kibbutzim and her strong advocacy of unemployment benefits. The work that 'most concerned and interested me,' she writes, was 'the translation of socialist principles into the down-to-earth terminology of everyday life.' The book is in presentable condition. The jacket is chipped at the extremities, and has a closed tear on the front and the boards exhibit a bit of wear, but still it's very nice.
