1st edition. Lord Frederick Roberts (1832-1914) was one of the most distinguished commanders of the British Empire. He served in the Indian rebellion, the Expedition to Abyssinia and the Second Anglo-Afghan War before leading British Forces to success in the Second Boer War. Roberts was awarded the Victoria Cross for actions on 2 January 1858 at Khudaganj. Pp.299/xvi(publisher's catalogue), portrait frontispiece + 15 further plates and a double page map of Northern India and Afghanistan. Grey illustrated boards, minor wear to top and tail of spine. VG.
