Spine sunned/slightly slanted, some edgewear, boards spotted at bottom. DJ has moderate edgewear with a few shallow tears and chips and a 1" tear at back flap edge. Text is tight and attractive. Inscribed by the author on pastedown. "Lonnie (Pop) Butts, soda pop bottler and stick candy manufacturer in a small Southern town, was content to confection his wares from his mental formulary, then go about the town peddling what he had produced. Then, two things happened at once, an unprecedented event in his life, and for the next forty years he was never quite able to cope with either. He reluctantly accepted, gratis, the perpetual franchise to bottle Solo Soda; and he was married to Miss Bertha Mae Adams of Yazoo City, Mississippi. The moved into meagre and improvised quarters above the soda pop works, and at the end of a year Pop was confronted with the loss of his business, his new franchise, his new wife and new baby - and Bertha's new piano. Pop acquires additional Solo Soda franchises in time, and in a few years he comes to the realization that he is actually a millionaire - but not until a million dollars is spread out in front of him at the directors' room of the bank and he and his family count it. Pop clings tenaciously to his money but he spends his old friends as if there were two available for each dollar of his accumulated millions."; 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall; Signed by Author
