Red cloth with gold lettering, xi + 138 pp, music references, playbill, b/w photographs. Ex-library with the usual stamps and markings, tape residue on end papers, slight edge wear, owner's name on front pastedown, price inked on front end paper, binding fairly tight, pages bright and clean with a touch of tanning. Signed by author on half title page. Jacket in protective wraps taped to boards, some edge wear and chipping along edges especially at top and base of spine, crease across upper corner, small tear and longer crease to bottom edge of back cover. Overall a solid copy. Includes the list of music, playbill including cast, musicians, list of scenes, technical staff, and members of the Roanoke Colony Memorial Association, NC Historical Commission, Roanoke Island Historical Association, and the Federal Theater Project.
This outdoor drama was created as part of Roanoke Island's 1937 celebration of the 350th anniversay of the birth of Virginia Dare. Originally performed July 4, 1937 -- the 353rd anniversary of the first Englishmen to land in America, it has become a North Carolina fixture ever since. Black & white photos throughout feature the original cast.
