Mint Condition envelope and stamp. Limited edition commemorative stamp depicting Snoopy as the "World War I Flying Ace" wearing his helmet and scarf while flying his doghouse in a dogfight against his arch-nemesis, the Red Baron. Each stamp was hand-placed by the postal clerk in Santa Rosa onto a limited edition, No. 10 sized commemorative envelope also issued by the Post Office that illustrates Snoopy walking a letter to a mailbox. The stamp was then canceled by the postal clerk and bears the first day cancellation by the U.S. Post Office using the special rubber pictorial hand-cancel stamp. Day Of Issue was May 17, 2001. The stamp and envelope (size No. 10) are in mint condition and bear the May 17, 2001 cancellation date stamped on the front by the U.S. Postal Service. Only four of the unique hand-stamps were created by the United States Postal Service to commemorate Charles Schultz' creation of the Peanuts. Cancellation using the special hand-stamp was only done at the main post office in Santa Rosa, California (home to the Schultz family and Peanuts' museum), and ceased as of June 15, 2001. (After June 15th, of the four hand-stamps, one went to the Schultz family, one to the Peanuts museum and one to the Smithsonian. The fourth hand-stamp was destroyed.) A unique item for the stamp collector as well as Peanuts fans.
