Oblong quarto [8-1/2 inches high by 11 inches wide] softcover. The contents are bound between a black-and-white pictorial front cover sheet & a white rear cover sheet with a metal binder. The metal brackets have been taped down with clear tape. The rear cover sheet is detached and soiled with short tears. Several small labels have been scotch taped to the tail of the spine & there is a handwritten sticker on the front cover sheet. 229 & [1] pages plus 4-page questionnaire. Illustrated with 17 unnumbered leaves of maps and charts. There is a stain to the inside front cover sheet. De-acquisitioned by the Regional Plan Association with their stamp on the first page & a library card pocket on the inside rear cover. The contents are very good. Good. This unpublished study referred to as the 42nd Street was carried out for the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York. William Kornblum was the project director and each section of the report was written by a different member of the study team. A printed letter from Kornblum bound in before the title page states that the report is the result of several months of research, interviews, public meetings and planning and that the material is still in the process of revision. This is a fascinating study and record of Forty-Second Street as it used to be prior to the Rudolf Giuliani "clean-up". Sections include "The Social Ecology of the Bright Light District" by William Kornblum and Vernon Boggs, "Forty-Second Street at the Crossroads: A History of Broadway to Eighth Avenue" by Stanley Bruder, "Markets in the Bright Light District", "The Sex Entertainment Industries on 42nd Street" by Charles Winick, "Street Drug Markets and Hustling" by Terry Williams and Vernon Boggs, "Crime and Law Enforcement in the Bright Light District" by Jennifer Hunt, and "Urban Design and Social Control."Rare.
