Frankfurt / Main: D. Stempel A.G. [1953]. [1953]. Very good. - sc A 37-1/2 inch high by 24 inch wide type specimen broadside on creamy white paper depicting Hermann Zapf's Sistina font. The broadside depicts the Roman alphabet and numbers in Capital letters printed in black above and below the title "Sistina" which is printed in sienna. Descriptive text about the type face, printed in sienna beneath the alphabet, reads: "Die kraftige Versalschrift Sistina (1952) gehort zur Familie der Palatino- Schriften. Ihre Schwere vereint sich mit Elastizitat und Lebendigkeit. Sie dient zur Auszeichnung in Werken und Zeitschriften, Anzeigen und Plakaten in Verbindung mit der Palatino und Antiquaschriften der Renaissance". The broadside is very lightly soiled with 4 light vertical creases and with some minor small creases to the edges and corners. There is a tiny brown spot to the lower left. A beautiful typographic broadside. From the estate of the calligrapher Paul Standard, a close friend of Zapf's, who has dated the broadside "1953" in pencil at the bottom. RARE.
