149 words penned in black ink on 1-1/2 sides of a sheet of her cream-colored 8-1/2" X 11" personal illustrated letterhead with her address printed in red in the top left corner & a border of 8 cartoon figures in red. Signed "Best wishes / Marty Links Arguello". The bottom edge of the letterhead is lightly creased. There is some very light stainng to the top edge of the letter with some light stains to the verso. Folded 3 times for mailing. Very good. Marty Links is replying to Fridolf Johnson of American Artist magazine, thanking him for his help concerning pen points she was searching for in vain: "Perhaps I will have to learn to use a new pen point -- Oh, dear -- another adjustment." Johnson had remembered meeting her husband and she goes on to give him various family news. She concludes: "I would be proud to be written up in your fine magazine. But prouder still as a water colorist instead of just a cartoonist."Marty Links was born in Oakland, California and later moved to San Francisco with her family. Her only art training was a six-month attendance at San Francisco's Fashion Art Institute. After her drawings for a major fashion advertising campaign were rejected by an executive who told her 'This isn't what we want. These Kids look more like bobby-soxers", she came up with an idea for a cartoon character. In 1944, she launched her comic strip "Bobby Sox" about a teenager named Mimi, who later morphed into "Emmy Lou". Links was married to Alexander Arguello.
