Also a 1/2" detached piece of the printed area of the text (a few letters of text only) on pages 3-4 has been reattached with paper repairs. A 1 1/2" chip to two other leaves (pages 69-72), mostly in the margin, but with loss of a few letters of text on each of these pages. ; First edition in English. xxiv, 386 pages + portrait frontispiece + 1 leaf of advertisements (the advertisement leaf is paginated 23-24). Lacking the folding map. Late 19th centuy half leather binding and marbled papered boards. Page dimensions: 192 x 120mm. Text in English, translated by E. S. "So death, or the Siberian mines, was to be my fate! Though I had long anticipated this, and long desired to learn the worst, I confess the certainty strangely shook both my mental and physical powers." - page 144.
