Front free endpaper torn out. Some foxing.; "Cheaper Edition / Third Impression". 288 pages + [12] pages advertisements. Brown cloth boards with black lettering on spine. Page dimensions: 184mm x 121mm. Nelle Scanlan (1882-1968) was a New Zealand author. She was a writer of historical romances, best known for her "Pencarrow" series. "Primrose Hill" was Scanlan's first novel. It was "set in a London boarding house, and revealed a slight talent for social comedy, including lightly drawn sketches of eccentrics, colonials abroad, and stereotypes drawn from the English professional class, loosely held together by the romantic interests of the characters" - Sturm, Terry (ed.), "Oxford History of New Zealand Literature in English" (2nd edition, p. 589).
