Covers rubbed with staining and moderate creasing. ; [32] pages. Illustrated thin card covers. Page dimensions: 243 x 184mm. A New Zealand government publication with adivce on home building, aimed "primarily for those with only limited finance". Includes fourteen plans of low-costs house, each illustrated with a small sketch and floor plan. One house, 768 square feet, is described thus: "A compact two bedroom house with combined living-dining and kitchen-laundry spaces, conventional entrance hall, and a distinct separation between living and sleeping areas. The contemporary low-pitched roof extended over a storage wall gives a protected area for the car, but this may be replaced by an enclosed garage if desired. Plumbing services are economically grouped around the hot-water cylinder, and drainage runs are kept to a minimum." Another description includes: "The use of asbestos panels in conjunction with windows on the exterior walls gives an opportunity to introduce an abstract colour pattern, giving a distinctive character." [Asbestos panels are now known to be carcinogenic.]
