Page dimensions: 216 x 138mm. Small in-text vignette illustrations. "In order to understand my story the reader ought to know that I began to sail on planks and logs at a tender age. Later on and during many years, I devoted every spare hous of the summer months to sailing. I handled dinghies and open-boats before I was trusted with a 'one-ton' boat, the Poodle, and a 'six meters fifty', the Gypsy. This training took place on the Lady of Geneva where I cruised mainly with Miette. [. . .] My country sent me to Paris during the Olympic Games to sail in the single-handed competition disputed between seventeen nations. Miette chose me to sail with her during six months in the Mediterranean avboard her three-ton sloop Perlette. Some of the talks we had then with Alain Gerbault were to be of great importance to our plans. We also sailed a ten-tonner to Athens, starting with a crew of four girls. It is a story I shall not write here as it has already been dealt with by Marthe Oulie in a book [. . .]" - from the Preface, page xi.
