Black cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine and front board. Page dimensions: 198 x 127mm. Author's Preface dated 1843. This 1909 edition includes some minor corrections and "elucidations of a few paragraphs not sufficiently plain for readers unfamiliar with the times and incidents alluded to" (see publisher's advertisement, page vi) to the text, and adds an index (pages 421-428).
