Westward Ho!

Joints rubbed. Rubbing to leather at corners of boards. No signatures. Possibly a scarce early deluxe publisher's binding for Collins Pocket Classics ; 660 pages + 8 plates (including frontispiece). Red half leather binding with gilt lettering and illustration on spine. Sturdy boards, not limp. The spine has a gilt illustration of what looks like a poppy flower (foliage and flowers), and "COLLINS" in gilt at tail of spine. Publisher's binding [I have not found other copies of this binding for comparison.] Page dimensions: 152 x 98mm. All page edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Plates are the frontispiece and facing pages 134, 155, 283, 355, 413, 458 and 564. Illustrations by G. C. Hindley [Godfrey]. There is no series mentioned in the book, but it appears to be an early example from the series Collins Illustrated Pocket Classics. This series began in 1903. "Westward Ho! is #6 in the series.
