Langkammerer is a noted German-Iranian binder. His personal library contained some 2000 volumes that were sold to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The volumes is inscribed "For my friend Dec. 1955 [possibly Langkammerer to Mack]. Newell B. Mack, an arms control advocate, died of cancer Nov. 17 [1986] at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Mass. He was 52 years old and lived in Belmont, Mass. Mr. Mack and his sister, Cornelia, were the first children to walk in the desert near Alamogordo, N.M., where an experimental atomic bomb had been detonated July 16, 1945. A few days after the bomb was detonated, Mr. Mack and his sister went to ground zero with their father, Julian Ellis Mack, who headed the optics division of the Manhattan Project, the wartime group that developed the nuclear device. Cornelia Mack died of cancer last year. His mother lived in Madison, Wisconsin, where it was purchased from Dr. David Lindberg, by JWRB. [see: NY Times Obituary November 27, 1986].
