Paul Mobius was the grandson of the mathematician August Mobius. Paul Mobius was born in Leipzig and earned a doctoral degree in philosophy before beginning medical studies (M.D., 1877). Mobius was the first to describe ophthalmoplegic migraine (1884), and made important studies of Basedow's disease, infantile Kernschwund, akinesia algera, various ataxias, neurasthenia in women, and the pathology of men of genius.
