8vo. 472 pp. [xx], 472 pp. Added engraved half-title with vignette of cupids (children) and a woman lifted high (apparently representing motherhood). Original half mottled calf, marbled boards, gilt stamped spine and black spine label; some neat repairs. Very good. RARE. First edition. The present book deals in particular with the birth, nutrition and education of children as well as various childhood diseases, all based on Brownian medicine. John Brown, of Scotland, developed the Brunonian system of medicine (1780), a theoretical approach of medical diagnosis and treatment that regards disorders as caused by defective or excessive excitation. / Nicolaus Friedrich Jahn (1766-1813), son of a pharmacist, was born and worked in Meinigen as a general practitioner and court physician to the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen. He earned his medical degree from the University of Jena (1787). His focus was on practical medicine, obstetrics and paediatrics. Jahn fell victim to a typhoid epidemic that was rampant in 1813.
