Dejerine collaborated with Andre-Thomas in writing this treatise on diseases of the spinal cord. It was so well conceived and noteworthy that they received the Montyon prize for their work on this subject in 1910. Joseph Jules Dejerine is best known for his many contributions to organic neurology, but he also was greatly interested in functional nervous disorders and developed several psychotherapeutic ideas that he was able to apply successfully. He stressed the importance of the therapist's personality in psychiatric treatment. Haymaker & Schiller Founders of neurology, 2nd ed., pp. 426-430.
