This work also contains the first description of the corneal nerves. The superb anatomical plates of the head, both finished and outlined, are of high quality and great artistic value. Schlemm discovered the annular canal through which aqueous exits the eye the "canal of Schlemm" in 1827 in the eye of a hanged man because it was filled with blood, and the corneal nerves.
