FIRST EDITION, this issue, being an abridgement of his earlier work. Haeser was professor of medicine at Jena, Greifswald and Breslau and is known as "one of the most learned physicians of his time." Garrison, History of medicine, p. 664. Haeser's Lehrbuch der Geschichte der Medicin und der Voldkskrankheiten (Jena, 1845) is described by Garrison and Morton as "an important German work on the history of medicine and one of the most outstanding contributions."
