The Ingoldsby legends were first printed in 1837 in Bentley's Miscellany and later in New Monthly Magazine. Their popularity with readers resulted in their being collected to a book which went under a number of editions. The stories themselves range from retellings of folktales, to original stories, however most of the legends are satirical takes on common legends and myths. First Edition.
