Augustus De Morgan's The differential and integral calculus was first issued in twenty-five parts from 15 July 1836 to 1 June 1842 by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. "In The differential and integral calculus (1842) there is a good discussion of fundamental principles with a definition of the limit which is probably the first precise analytical formulation of Cauchy's somewhat intuitive concept. The same work contains a discussion of infinite series with an original rule to determine convergence precisely when simpler tests fail." DSB. "Still a standard work, and containing much that is original with the author." Cajori. "A work of great ability, and noticeable for the rigorous treatment of infinite series." Ball. This volume contains "Elementary illustrations of the differential and integral calculus, " and "On probability" in the last 64 and 54 pages (respectively).
