Ex Libris William Neely Johnson, with his signature on p 13. Johnson was Secretary of Californias Board of Land Commissioners, was the State's second appointed State Librarian [an interim appointment for 4 months in 1870], and brother of Gov. John Neely Johnson [1856-1858]. Condition: Covers heavily worn; damp-stained at lower right front; rear board was very heavily damaged but was professionally restored. Spine is modernly rebacked in black morocco to match the original leather, gilt titles. 6 pages of advertisements in the front are on thinner paper and somewhat worn, but still in good shape and fully in tact. Three leaves in the back with marginal archival paper repai rs, not affecting the text. Back end paper replaced. Text block is bright and clean, near very good. .
