(xviii 372pp.) With 31 full-page plates, including one fold-out; 15 colored, plus colored frontispiece. Tissue guards on all of the colored plates. The special binding here is contemporary not modern; signed Lippincotts. Bourke fought in the Civil War and was awarded the Medal of Honor. He then attended West Point after the war, became an officer, and served as a cavalry officer in the American West and Indian Wars until his death. He wrote this book about the Moquis Pueblos of Arizona Territory while stationed there. #####Condition: Fair: the text block is clean and tight, with two pages having been cut 1 at bottom -- the title page and p. 303. Frontispiece and feps detached. Damaged covers: front panel mostly detached but still connected at bottom; chip at spine; edges and corners rubbed. Rear hinge cracked but intact.
