The second book by the Moore/Leight team, following "The Unhappy Hippopotamus." Not a well-known series, but beloved works with 5-stars on both Amazon and Goodreads. The earlier book was a Junior Literary Guild selection in 1957 and named one of the best childrens' books of the year by the New York Times. The five original drawings are 11"x13.5", in gray-pink-white pastels on Bristol board. Unknown whether the drawings were intended for this book but not used, or whether they were prepared for a third book never published. Author Nancy Moore, was a professional actress who also wrote for radio and television. Illustrator Edward Leight collaborated on several other books but mostly taught painting to children and designed theater sets, wallpapers, and textiles. [Ward & Marquardt; Authors/Illustrators of Books for Young People, Scarecrow Press 1970,1971]
