Small Quarto Size [approx 17.5cm x 24cm]. Very Good copy in Very Good dustjacket. DJ spine is a little sunned [common] & dustjacket is now protected in our purpose-made plastic sleeve. Previous owner's details and cataloguing information to preliminary pages. Black & white illustrations. Endpapers illustrated with [facsimile] signatures of expedition members. Unpaginated. Ernest Shackleton's Nimrod expedition to the Antarctic [1907-09] saw the first ascent of Mr Erebus, and the location of the South Magnetic Pole. During this expedition the Shackleton team travelled to within 100 miles of the South Pole and produced - wrote, designed, illustrated and bound - a book recording its exploits. Hand bound with twine, into covers of packing-case and seal skin, less than one hundred copies of Aurora Australis were produced. This is a reproduction of that book, and a unique record of Shackleton's extraordinary publication. Robust, professional packaging and tracking provided for all parcels.
