The 1911 Sidney Street siege was the culmination of events that began with the December 1910 attempted jewellery robbery at Houndsditch by a gang of Latvian immigrants. This resulted in the murder of three policemen, the wounding of two others, and the death of George Gardstein, the leader of the Latvian gang.
