Red cloth with only light shelf wear and aging, mainly on foredges. Square and securely bound. Jacket has some minor soiling along with relatively light edge and corner wear along with several bumps and small chips. While this book is listed as the Centennial Edition, I can find no earlier editions listed, so it, in fact, seems to be the first as well. Haygood (1839-1896) was a prominent Georgia Methodist who eventually became Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. After the Civil War, he worked for the rights of freed Negroes in the South. He was also a writer (Our Brother in Black, Jack Knife and Brambles) and was associated with Emory University. ; B & W Photographs; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 720 pages
