Aunt Carrie was Caroline L. Smith, who in addition to the stories in verse, wrote books about Home Arts, Popular Pastimes and Indoor Games and Amusement. The Fisher Boy is a three page story in verse, followed by Little Meggy's Dog Tray, There was a Hobby Horse and The Dancing Lesson. Each story is illustrated with an engraving that seems to be handcolored, as is the cover illustration. The are some small chips and tears around the outer edges, overall toning to the pages and small slits at the top and bottom of the spine. For a piece of ephemera handled by children it is remarkably nice condition. WorldCat locates only one copy of the book and estimates the date to be ca. 1850. It is a charming little example of children's books in the 19th century . ; Aunt Carrie's Stories in Verse; 24mo 5" - 6" tall; 8 pages
