This is a striking woodcut of the illustration on the dust jacket of the first American edition of The Real Jazz by Huges Pannisse. It is by all accounts, a forgery by Earl Marshawn Washington, an engraver, who has created about 1700 copies of works by other artists. He has at times claimed these to be the work of his grandfather (of whom there is no record) or that the grandfather had "rescued " the plates from a burned-out print shop. His forgeries include works by M. C Escher and Rockwell Kent. More information is available on Wikipedia. That being said, this is a very decorative piece with an interesting history. The print is 8 x 11", matted to 8 x 10 and framed to 11 x 14". It is in VG+ to NF condition. I do not know who the original artist was - there is no credit in my copy of The Real Jazz. ; Woodcuts; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 1 pages
