A small, 4" x 5" bifold card stock menu details the 15-item Fourth of July dinner served aboard the USS Lexington, nicknamed "Lady Lex." The menu includes items such as turkey, hearts of lettuce, and even cigarettes. Apparently the feast failed to impress the diner, who wrote on the menu (I would have rather had a ham sandwich if I could have eaten it in Wollaston with my sweetheart.) The Lexington served until it was damaged in the Battle of the Coral Sea in 1942 and subsequently scuttled to prevent its capture by the Japanese. Science fiction author Robert A. Heinlein served aboard the "Lady Lex" from 1929 to 1932. Soiling, age-toning. Good.
