Clean and sturdy. Several highlights. The Church in the United States is broken. This does not mean that we should all stop meeting together. Both things can be true. In a society where many find themselves "deconstructing," people need an environment where they can contemplate how the current church operates and determine if there are healthy adjustments to be made. The current outlook on deconstruction from evangelical circles is that it is all evil. Though there are versions of deconstruction that lead people to lose their faith entirely, there are also versions of deconstruction where people who have been hurt or abused in the church never lose their faith in God, just their faith in the Church. This book provides an opportunity to explore reconstruction.

I have had the honor of knowing Trevor for over a decade. Through the years, he has been steadfast in his integrity and obedience to where God is leading him and his family. I believe this book is so important for our churches. Do I agree with every word No. But I wholeheartedly agree that these conversations need to be happening within church leadership. As Americans, I believe we've lost touch with nuanced conversations, and hopefully, this book will bring to light topics to help guide you to the truth. If you have been hurt by the church, may this read be a refreshing perspective of the heart of the Church. That we learn to follow the way of Jesus, together.

Forty years ago, I would not have believed I would one day say this: "Sometimes it feels like the American church at large is lost." Today, it's not just me. For many, it's reached a breaking point. I get it. I feel their frustration. I understand why so many are wavering. It's why I'm so enthusiastic about Brick by Brick. Trevor explains this struggle. In his opening chapter, he writes, "Giving up "church" altogether isn't an option it is a biblical mandate. However, the way we are currently doing "church" in the 21st century has been exposed to be faulty at best." We know that the Church will be fine, our Savior says as much, but that doesn't mean there isn't work to be done. Trevor emphasizes these points by addressing many of the difficult issues the Church faces today. We need to double down on abiding in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Our only hope is and will always be Godnot the methods, mayhems, or manias in which we've become so enchanted. Brick by Brick is a necessary work.
