Clean, sturdy and unmarked. Light fading. Wolfhart Pannenberg is one of the younger European theologians whose creative and innovative thought is challenging prevailing concepts. Pannenberg seeks to break out of the closed discipline approach typical of many theologians and philosophers, and sees theology as a universal science in a rational world. Don Olive here presents Pannenberg's thought first in terms of the thinkers who have influenced him, and then in terms of his main emphases. These include "Faith and Reason," "Reality as History," "Revelation," and "Jesus of Nazareth." He also relates Pannenberg's theology to the biblical theologies of men like Barth and Bultmann, to the political theologies of men like Jurgen Moltmann and Harvey Cox, and to the point of view which might be termed biblical liberalism. In his final chapter, Olive offers a critique and evaluation of Pannenberg in the light of his unique contribution to contemporary Christian thought.
