1853, Leather with gilt titles and engravings, Marble endpapers, Vol. 1 xii, 385pp., Vol.11 x, 401pp., 9 1/4" tall, Life of the Duke of Wellington. Two volumes in one with numerous engravings. Laid in commencement program from the twenty second annual commencement of the Ladies' Department Oberlin College, August 21, 1855. Fair. Cover is rubbed with gilt missing on spine and back cover. Front cover is detached. Edges and corners worn to the boards. Split along gutter of spine. Front hinge cracked with first title page torn. Foxing throughout book but mainly on pages with engravings. Some fingerprints. Tissue guards are browned with most loose and sticking out the bottom of the pages. Previous owner's name and date on first title page. Overall pages are in good condition. Binding is tight.He was a soldier and statesman who was one of the leading military and political figures of 19th-century Britain. He defeated Napoleon in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815
