Like new except for small bump on bottom front corner.Frida Kahlo, the Mexican painter, captivated the public during her lifetime. She was best known as the flamboyant wife of celebrated muralist Diego Rivera. Their relationship was tumultuous, with Rivera declaring himself unfit for fidelity. To cope with her pain, Kahlo depicted the ups and downs of her marriage in her paintings. She also portrayed the difficulties of her declining health, including the orthopedic corsets, spinal surgeries, miscarriages, and therapeutic abortions. Despite the sometimes distressing nature of her art, Kahlo's intentional primitivism, small scale, sardonic humor, and extraordinary imagination softened the impact. In honor of the one hundredth anniversary of Kahlo's birth, a new monograph was published for the 2007-08 traveling exhibition. It showcases the artist's most famous work, including her haunting self-portraits and other key pieces. The catalogue features over 100 color plates, from Kahlo's earliest works in 1926 to her last in 1954, along with critical essays by Elizabeth Carpenter, Hayden Herrera, and Victor Zamudio-Taylor. Additionally, it includes photographs of Kahlo and Rivera by prominent photographers of the time, as well as snapshots from Kahlo's personal photo albums, some of which have never been published. The catalogue also contains an extensive illustrated timeline, selected bibliography, exhibition history, and index.
