1st Edition. 8vo. pp. viii, 187. Fine contemporary painted leather binding by the Giuseppe Norsa Company of Venice with their ticket and tiny embossed lead seal. A typically Islamic design, the binding uses leather beaten over a wooden[] ornate design painted overall in gold with floral decorations in black, red and blue, red silk endpapers. Originally with leather ties, two are lost and two are detached. Sunk panel bindings were known in Venice from Renaissance times and used to preserve official documents, this is an intriguing binding, possibly a copy of an earlier example, which completely disguises the leather under the painted decoration, presumably aimed at the tourist trade at the turn of the century.
