First Rate Man of War 120 guns.

Pencil heightened with a touch of watercolour for the union jack. 125 x 170 mm. within border. Titled and initialled just below the border. Inscribed on the paper mount “From Lieut R.B. Bowden R.N. Reculver, Herne Bay Kent. Sept 22nd 1843.” Richard Bayly Bowden, was present on board the Britannia during the Battle of Trafalgar as Midshipman. By 1843, when this drawing was presented, he was employed in the Coast Guard.
