St. Nicholas Hotel, Broadway.

Engraving from receipt or letterhead, 110 x 150 mm. This item may have at some time been mounted and will bear traces on the reverse of adhesive or removal of mounts. The St Nicholas Hotel, which opened in 1853, was the first building in New York to cost over a million dollars and raised the bar for lavish appointments in luxury hotels. It took up a whole city block and had 1,000 rooms. Only a sliver of the original building remains after most of the hotel was demolished.
