Unsigned. Pen and ink, 290 x 220 mm. [unframed size] a couple of vertical creases, drawn on the back of a book illustration. Framed and glazed. Original Drawing from the Studio Sale of Raymond Henry Bradshaw [1918 - 97]. May have the Bradshaw studio stamp. Bradshaw trained at the Westminster School of Art from 1936 to 1938 under the tutorship of Mark Gertler (1891-1939), Bernard Meninsky (1891-1950), Mervyn Peake (1911-1968), and Adrian Hill (1885-1977) and his relationship with these artists remained close. After serving in the RAF during the war, he taught and was Head of the Art Department at Bancroft’s School, where he himself had been educated (1928-35). This drawing probably come from his time as a student of Peake's at Westminster School. It was Peake's habit to give away drawings which he produced as demonstrations in the life class, usually nudes, and normally much less finished than seen here.
